We are currently recruiting on behalf of a friendly and inclusive primary school in St Helens for an enthusiastic and dedicated KS1 Teaching Assistant to join their team ASAP on a full-time, long-term basis.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, who is passionate about supporting young learners and helping them to develop key literacy, numeracy and social skills during their early primary education.

 

The Role 

As a KS1 Teaching Assistant, you will provide support across Key Stage 1, working alongside class teachers to deliver engaging lessons and interventions. You will support pupils both within the classroom and through small group or one-to-one sessions, helping to ensure all children make excellent progress.

The role will also involve supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and contributing to a positive and nurturing learning environment.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Supporting teaching and learning across Key Stage 1
  • Delivering small group and one-to-one interventions in phonics, reading, writing and numeracy
  • Assisting pupils in meeting age-related expectations
  • Supporting the delivery of the KS1 curriculum
  • Working with pupils with SEN to help them access learning and achieve their targets
  • Supporting classroom management and encouraging positive behaviour
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents

 

Requirements 

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a UK primary school setting
  • Experience supporting pupils within Key Stage 1
  • Good knowledge of the KS1 curriculum
  • Experience supporting phonics programmes and early literacy development
  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, caring and proactive approach to supporting children’s learning

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification
  • Relevant education or childcare qualification
  • Phonics training (such as Read Write Inc)
  • Additional SEN-related training or qualifications
