Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Required

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in St Helens from September 2026.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a talented HLTA who is passionate about supporting pupils to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work within Year 6 during the mornings, providing targeted support and delivering interventions to help pupils prepare for the transition to secondary school. In the afternoons, you will provide PPA cover across the school, delivering planned lessons and ensuring high-quality learning continues in the absence of the class teacher.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning within a Year 6 classroom each morning.
  • Deliver small-group interventions and whole-class learning activities.
  • Provide high-quality PPA cover across the primary age range during the afternoons.
  • Work closely with teachers to support pupil progress and attainment.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with varying learning needs to enable them to access the curriculum.
  • Contribute to assessment and monitoring of pupil progress.

 

The Successful Candidate Will Have

Essential:

  • A recognised HLTA qualification (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant within KS2.
  • Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence in delivering lessons independently across different year groups.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting teaching and learning.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Experience delivering interventions to raise attainment in Upper Key Stage 2.
  • Knowledge of SATs preparation and Year 6 expectations.
