Are you an experienced and passionate Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role within a supportive primary school setting?

We are currently recruiting for a full-time KS1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Knowsley from September 2026. This is a long-term opportunity supporting a pupil with additional needs while also undertaking wider classroom support responsibilities.

 

The Role

The successful candidate will primarily provide 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop social skills, build confidence and achieve their individual targets. In addition, you will support the class teacher with general Teaching Assistant duties and contribute to creating a positive, inclusive learning environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs.
• Supporting the pupil’s academic, emotional and social development.
• Implementing learning and behaviour support strategies.
• Encouraging engagement, independence and positive classroom participation.
• Supporting classroom learning activities and interventions.
• Assisting with phonics, literacy and numeracy activities.
• Supporting small groups of pupils when required.
• Preparing and organising classroom resources.
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals.
• Promoting safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times.

 

Essential Requirements:

• Previous experience working within a primary school setting.
• Proven experience supporting children with SEND/additional needs.
• Strong understanding of how to support pupils with a range of learning, communication and behavioural needs.
• A patient, nurturing and flexible approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development.

 

Compliance Requirements:

• An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service is highly desirable.
• Candidates without a current DBS on the Update Service must be willing to complete a new
• Enhanced DBS check and provide the necessary documentation as part of the recruitment process.
• Satisfactory references and right-to-work checks will also be required.
