Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Year 4 SEMH Support

Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming single-form entry mainstream primary school in Ellesmere Port, who are looking to appoint a dedicated Level 2 qualified Teaching Assistant to join their KS2 team.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and understands the importance of building trusting relationships through a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.

 

Your new role:

You will be based primarily within a Year 4 classroom, providing dedicated 1:1 support to a male pupil who presents with SEMH needs as a result of significant trauma and deprivation.

Due to his individual needs and experiences, the pupil can at times present complex behavioural challenges. The successful candidate will understand that behaviour is a form of communication and will be confident providing patient, consistent and trauma-informed support.

Your responsibilities will include:

·       Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.

·       Supporting the pupil to engage positively with learning and classroom routines.

·       Developing a strong, trusting relationship built around consistency, patience and clear boundaries.

·       Implementing positive behaviour strategies and helping the pupil regulate their emotions.

·       Supporting the pupil during periods of heightened behaviour in a calm and professional manner.

·       Encouraging positive social interaction and emotional development.

·       Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.

·       Supporting access to the wider curriculum and promoting independence wherever possible.

·       Maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

 

What you need to succeed:

·       Level 2 qualified in Supporting Teaching and Learning or an equivalent qualification.

·       Experienced working within a primary school environment.

·       Confident supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.

·       Understanding of trauma-informed and positive behaviour approaches.

·       Patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent.

·       Able to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour.

·       A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a wider school team.

·       Passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential.
