Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a single-form entry primary school in Winsford, which forms part of a large and well-established Multi-Academy Trust (MAT).

The school are looking to appoint an extremely nurturing, proactive and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their specialist SEMH provision, supporting pupils aged 4–11 who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

The pupils within the provision may have experienced trauma, deprivation and other adverse childhood experiences, which can present through emotional dysregulation, challenging behaviour, difficulties with relationships and barriers to learning.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who understands that behaviour is often a form of communication and who can provide pupils with the consistency, patience and emotional security they need to succeed.

 

Your new role:

Working as part of the SEMH provision, you will play a key role in supporting pupils’ emotional development, wellbeing and engagement with education.

Your responsibilities will include:

·       Providing highly nurturing and consistent support to pupils aged 4–11.

·       Supporting children with SEMH needs linked to trauma, deprivation and adverse experiences.

·       Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and helping them feel safe and valued.

·       Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and social development.

·       Using positive and proactive approaches to behaviour management.

·       Recognising triggers and helping pupils develop appropriate coping strategies.

·       Supporting pupils to re-engage with learning following periods of dysregulation.

·       Delivering 1:1 and small-group activities designed to develop confidence, communication and independence.

·       Working closely with teachers and the wider SEMH team to provide consistent support.

·       Helping pupils develop positive relationships with peers and adults.

·       Encouraging pupils to develop resilience, self-esteem and a positive attitude towards school.

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

The successful candidate will be an exceptionally nurturing and emotionally intelligent Teaching Assistant who can remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.

You will ideally have:

·       Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs.

·       Experience supporting children affected by trauma, deprivation or challenging home circumstances.

·       A nurturing, patient and non-judgemental approach.

·       Strong understanding of positive behaviour support.

·       The ability to recognise and respond to emotional and behavioural triggers.

·       A proactive approach to supporting children’s individual needs.

·       Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

·       The resilience and patience required to work within a specialist SEMH environment.

·       A genuine passion for helping vulnerable children overcome barriers to learning.
