SEN Teaching Assistant – SEND School

Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in Northwich, supporting children aged 2–11 years with a wide range of complex and profound additional needs.

Due to continued demand, the school are looking to appoint a number of dedicated Teaching Assistants to join their team on a full-time basis.

Your New Role:

You will work as part of a supportive and experienced team, providing personalised support to pupils with a variety of complex needs. The school organises classes according to age, individual needs and capacity, meaning you may work within a class consisting of pupils from different age groups.

Pupils across the school have a range of needs, including:

• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD/ASC)
• Non-verbal communication
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Complex learning needs
• Specific disabilities
• Pupils affected by social and economic deprivation
• A range of profound and multiple additional needs

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping pupils access their learning, develop communication and independence, and engage positively with their environment.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support within the classroom
• Supporting pupils with complex and profound additional needs
• Helping pupils access learning through personalised and differentiated activities
• Supporting communication and interaction
• Encouraging independence and developing life skills
• Implementing individual support strategies and EHCP outcomes
• Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Working alongside teachers and specialist staff to provide consistent support
• Creating a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment
• Supporting pupils across different age groups where required

What you need to succeed:

The school is looking for Teaching Assistants who are patient, compassionate and adaptable, with a genuine passion for working with children with complex SEN.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN or complex needs
• A calm and patient approach
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual needs
• Confidence supporting pupils who may be non-verbal or have communication difficulties
• A positive and consistent approach to behaviour
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team

Experience with ASD/ASC, SEMH, non-verbal pupils, communication strategies or complex learning needs would be advantageous, although candidates with transferable experience and the right attitude will also be considered.
