SEN Teaching Assistant

Desian Education are working in partnership with a supportive two-form entry mainstream primary school in Warrington who are looking to appoint an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated ASD and sensory provision on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant with a strong understanding of autism, sensory processing and additional needs who is looking to take on a specialist and rewarding role.

Your New Role:

Working within the school’s designated provision, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with ASD and sensory needs, helping them to access learning, develop independence and regulate successfully throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and delivering sensory stimuli and sensory-based activities.
• Planning and delivering comprehensive 1:1 and small-group interventions.
• Supporting pupils with ASD to access the wider school curriculum.
• Developing personalised strategies to support communication, regulation and engagement.
• Working collaboratively with the SENCO to implement individual support plans.
• Liaising with external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists (SALT).
• Implementing recommendations from specialist professionals within the classroom and provision.
• Supporting pupils with their social, emotional and communication development.
• Creating a calm, structured and inclusive environment tailored to individual sensory needs.

What you need to succeed:

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD/SEN.
• A strong understanding of sensory processing and sensory regulation.
• Experience delivering targeted interventions.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals.
• A patient, nurturing and consistent approach.
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their potential.
