KS1 SEMH Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated, resilient and passionate KS1 SEMH Teacher to join a specialist SEN school in Wigan on a long-term temporary basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young learners who require additional emotional, social and behavioural support to succeed both academically and personally.

The school caters for pupils with a range of special educational needs, with a particular focus on children who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and inclusive learning experiences to a small Key Stage 1 class, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning while celebrating every achievement, no matter how small.

You will:

• Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs.
• Create a positive and nurturing learning environment where pupils feel safe, valued and understood.
• Develop strong and consistent relationships with pupils, supporting emotional regulation and social development.
• Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, therapists and senior leaders to ensure the best outcomes for every child.
• Use behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed approaches to promote engagement and learning.
• Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress, adapting teaching approaches where required.
  Foster resilience, independence and confidence in young learners.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching within Key Stage 1.
• Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs, SEND, autism, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• A genuine commitment to inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners.
• The ability to adapt quickly and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable experience:

• Teaching within a specialist SEN setting.
• Experience using trauma-informed practice.
• Team Teach training or similar positive behaviour support training.
• Knowledge of EHCPs and personalised learning programmes.
