KS1 Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEND Support

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for multiple KS1 Teaching Assistants to work on a 1:1 basis with pupils who have additional needs across a number of welcoming and supportive primary schools in the St Helens area.

These are full-time, long-term opportunities starting in September and are ideal for experienced Teaching Assistants who are passionate about making a positive difference to children’s learning, development, and wellbeing.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils in Key Stage 1 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Support pupils with their academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
• Implement strategies and interventions in line with EHCPs and individual learning plans.
• Work closely with class teachers, SENDCOs, and other professionals to support pupil progress.
• Build positive relationships that encourage engagement, confidence, and independence.
• Monitor and report on pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

 

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a UK primary school setting.
• Experience supporting children with SEND, including needs such as ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties, and SEMH.
• A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

 

Essential Requirements

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Ability to provide recent references covering relevant childcare or educational experience.
